Shadia Alem is an established and renowned Saudi visual artist who has participated in many exhibitions in Saudi Arabia and abroad.
Born in Makkah, she divides her time between Jeddah and Paris. She graduated with a BA in Art and English Literature from King Abdulaziz University and since 1985 has participated in group and solo exhibitions in Saudi Arabia and well as Egypt, Morocco, Germany, Korea and Paris and her work is included in numerous important private and public collections.
One of her highest goal manifested in the Saudi Pavilion at 2011 Venice Biennale christening saudi arabia's inaugural year of participation.
Shadia oeuvres incorporates painting, photography and installation. Starting out as a painter, her work expanded in volume so that found their way off the canvas and into space. In much of her work, Shadia documents different phenomena along the years and invests them in her projects such as The Black Mirror, All is Changed 9/11, and Negative No More.
