ATHR will be presenting the works by Hazem Harb at Artissima 2015’s Present Future section from the 6th – 8th November, 2015.

Hazem Harb will be presenting his series, Archaeology of Occupation, a body of work that takes pre-nakba photographs (1948) of Palestenian landscapes and references modernism in relation to architecture.

“The series emphasizes a history of colonialism, where the fraught concretions are levitating ominously above Palestinian coastal skies. Thus the collage is double fold: the photos show a landscape devoid of people representing a biblical landscape while the concrete cut outs preempt the arrival of colonial modernizing concrete onto the horizon of the cities. But how does one read it from the present, or from the future? Perhaps in reverse?”  explained Hazem Serafi, Co-Founder of ATHR,  about the series.

Present Future is a section of Artissima devoted to upcoming talents selected by a board of young curators from around the world. Lara Khaldi, an independent curator working between Ramallah and Amsterdam who is serving on the Present Future section’s curator board, selected Hazem Harb to participate with his work, Archaeology of Occupation.

Artists chosen for this section will be competing in the Illy Present Future Prize, which offers the winner the exceptional opportunity of a show at Castello di Rivoli d’Arte Contemporanea, sponsored by illycaffè.
